Unfortunately, laser hair removal isn't an exact science yet. There's still lots of research in how hair grows and how these cycles work exactly. What is known is that hair grows in 4 cycles; Anagen, Catagen, Telogen & Exogen. Anagen is the active growth phase and the laser only targets hair in this cycle.

ANAGEN lasts around 2-6 years and constitutes about 90% of the hair growth cycle

CATAGEN lats around 2 weeks,

TELOGEN lasts around 2 weeks to a 1 month, and alongside Catagen, they constitute about 10% of the hair growth cycle

Generally only 15% of your hair is in the Anagen hair cycle or growing, at any one time. Therefore it would take a minimum of 6 sessions to reach 90% hair reduction/removal. Please note, hair in the intimate areas and/or face will take longer to reduce than other areas of the body e.g. legs or underarms, as the hair growth in these areas are due to hormones and their hair cycles are more vigorous compared to the rest of the body. Therefore, expect at least 2 more sessions required here.

There isn't much to prepare for laser but there are two big things you need to be aware of.

Once you've started laser hair removal you cannot wax, thread or epilate. For laser hair removal to be effective, we need to be confident that there are hairs and follicles under your skin to absorb the laser. By pulling the hair out of the follicle there is nothing to absorb the laser, rendering the treatment ineffective. If you have waxed/epilated or threaded during your LHR journey, please let a specialist know.

To prepare for your session please ensure that you have shaved the area properly and have moisturised.
